Block Panchayat
Under the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, a Block Panchayat is the intermediate tier of local self-government between the Gram Panchayats and the District Panchayat. A Block Panchayat comprises several Gram Panchayats within its jurisdiction. Its primary responsibilities include coordinating and supporting the development activities of Gram Panchayats, planning and implementing various development projects, and executing schemes related to agriculture, health, education, women and child development, and social welfare. The Block Panchayat functions under an elected governing body consisting of members chosen directly by the people. It plays a vital role in ensuring the integrated development of the constituent Gram Panchayats and in promoting the overall progress of the region.
